Selection Process
The selection for CRPF Constable (Technical & Tradesmen and Pioneer) 2026 is a structured multi-stage process. Candidates must qualify each stage to proceed to the next.
Stage 1 – Physical Efficiency Test (PET) The PET evaluates the physical fitness and endurance of the candidates. It involves a running race conducted as per trade-specific distances and time limits. This stage is qualifying in nature.
Stage 2 – Physical Standard Test (PST) After PET, candidates’ height, chest measurement (for males), and weight are measured. Candidates not meeting the prescribed physical standards are disqualified immediately.
Stage 3 – Biometric Verification Candidates who qualify PET and PST undergo biometric recording of fingerprints and photograph to prevent impersonation and verify identity at subsequent stages.
Stage 4 – Computer-Based Test (CBT) Qualified candidates appear for a written objective-type exam in CBT mode, conducted in English and Hindi. The CBT tests candidates on:
- General Intelligence & Reasoning
- General Knowledge & Awareness
- Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability)
- English / Hindi Language Proficiency
There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
Stage 5 – Trade / Skill Test Candidates who qualify the CBT appear for a practical trade test related to their applied post. This test carries 50 marks and is qualifying in nature — a minimum of 20 marks must be scored to qualify. The test assesses hands-on skills like driving, vehicle mechanics, cooking, tailoring, barbering, masonry, electrician work, etc.
Stage 6 – Document Verification (DV) Candidates who clear the Trade Test are called for Document Verification. Original certificates and documents (educational, domicile, category, age proof, etc.) are verified at this stage. Any discrepancy or mismatch leads to disqualification.
Stage 7 – Detailed Medical Examination (DME) / Review Medical Examination (RME) The final stage involves a comprehensive medical check by the CRPF Medical Board as per CAPF guidelines. Candidates must be physically and medically fit. Common grounds for rejection include flat feet, knock knees, color blindness, hernia, and other conditions specified in CAPF medical standards. Candidates may request a Review Medical Examination (RME) if they dispute the initial DME result.
